The agriculture
sector in Pakistan contributes 25.2 percent of the GDP and employs
an estimated 44.3 percent of labor, as stated in the GDP/Employment
by Sector of Origin table. The primary food crops produced are bananas,
barley, coconuts, maize, potatoes, rice, soybeans, sugar beets,
sugar cane and wheat. The primary meat products are beef and veal,
buffalo, chicken, duck, meat nes and lamb. The largest (in value
terms) agricultural exports in 1998 were milled rice, refined sugar,
fish, crude organic materials and molasses. The total value of agricultural
exports in 1998 was $1,294.2 million, while the total value of agricultural
imports in 1998 was $2,087.5 million.
